Artistic Journey

As artists, we embark on new artistic journeys every day. Each journey is different and not always so straightforward. Some are great successes, some are failures, and others are somewhere in between. While successful results are valued as the ultimate prize, we learn the most from the artistic journey itself. This illustration uses piano as a metaphor for the artistic journey. What takes the center stage is not the pitch-perfect performance by the pianist, but the winding “golden path” inside of the piano that enables the artist to experience each of the five different emotions: phases of joy; seasons of doubt; periods of discovery; times of struggles; and moments of courage.
These emotional experiences are the true prize of the artistic journey.
This illustration project incorporates repurposed paper materials such as magazines and paper bags to create paper collage designs. Then the illustration is digitally enhanced and edited via Adobe Photoshop to create additional depth and shadows in the background. The "golden path" is digitally created using the Photoshop brushes which allows the "journey" to become the focal point of the entire visual story.
